Who can use the Young Persons' Bus Travel Scheme?
All 16 to 21-year-olds are eligible for Young Persons' Bus Travel Scheme fares, but you must have a mytravelpass to prove your age to the bus driver when purchasing a ticket.
If you do not already have a mytravelpass you can apply here mytravelpass.tfw.wales/apply from Monday 21st July.
I already have a mytravelpass?
If you are aged between 16 and 21 and already have a mytravelpass you are ready to benefit from the new Young Persons' Bus Travel Scheme and do not need to do anything further.
Where can I purchase discounted Young Persons bus tickets?
The discounted Young Persons' bus fares can be either purchased on bus from the driver on boarding or where appropriate via mobile ticketing apps. You cannot use Tap-on/Tap-off and capped payment at present, although we hope to introduce this in the future as we develop the scheme further.
If you use an app on your phone to purchase a ticket you may need to register your mytravelpass before you can buy reduced fares and you will still need to present the mytravelpass to the driver when you board the bus.
There are also some restrictions on the use of single tickets purchased via mobile apps as these can only be used on services that are operated by the bus company who sold you the single ticket.
This restriction does not apply to Day Tickets purchased on an app and which can be used on any participating Welsh bus service.
Can I get a Young Persons' discount on bus services outside Wales?
Yes, providing your bus journey begins or ends within Wales, you will be covered within the scheme up to and from the first bus stop in England or on some services to the end of the route.
What if I do not have or lose my mytravelpass?
If you are 16 to 21 and cannot present your mytravelpass to the driver when boarding the bus, you will be asked to pay the full adult fare for that journey.
Replacement passes can be obtained by contacting us on 0300 200 22 33
Is there a discount on rail travel?
The Young Persons Bus Travel Scheme only applies to bus travel in Wales.
